New city arts department also housed at facility

Lafayette this week welcomes the grand opening of the Collective Community Arts Center and the Arts and Cultural Resources Department, a new department serving the city’s vibrant art scene.

The opening will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 17 at 201 N. Public Road, a refurbished historic building.

The new art center’s name was chosen to show the collaboration of collectively working together to celebrate the community’s identity through art.

The celebration will begin by presenting photography of Gerry Morrell, a native Coloradan and photographer.

Morrell also is known as a local celebrity in Lafayette where he served as a fire fighter and fire chief for 40 years. His family owns Lafayette’s Morrell Print Solutions.

His show, called Off the Beaten Path, explores areas in Colorado where people don’t venture as much, and focuses on taking pictures of roads less traveled.  Read More…
